Image ProcessingCramond Island Causeway, Firth of Forth, Scotland

Information can be taken from scanned images and interpreted. Bar-codes can be read as documents are scanned and used to identify form types and customer references.  Optional Recognition engines are available for OMR - Optical Mark Reading, OCR - Optical Character Recognition and ICR - Intelligent Character Recognition. The OMR engine will interpret tick boxes. OCR will convert printed characters from the image into text and ICR will convert hand written characters into text.

Causeway Systems use these techniques to develop solutions for our customers. Examples are:

ICS Customer Surveys
Forms are printed with the customer name, address and a barcode of the customer reference and sent out. Returned forms are scanned, the barcode interpreted and the document routed for image processing.  The Image Processing software scans each form reading tick boxes and hand written text and storing the results for subsequent analysis using standard Reporting tools. The system also records that a response has been received so that Reminder letters can be sent to those that have not responded.

ICS SDR Processing
A file of claimants is extracted from the Revenues system and Review letters, with a barcode and tick boxes, are sent out through ICS. When the form is returned it is scanned, automatically indexed from the barcode, logs that the form has been returned and routes it to a special InTray for processing. The forms are processed, using Optical Mark recognition (OMR), and a message sent directly to the core Revenues system for updating. If there is no change the process is complete and the document closed. If there is a change the form is moved to an InTray for manual processing.
